Frequently Asked Questions
Do you have any tips for our session?
Here are my recommendations to help a child or family session run more smoothly.
- Give small children a snack or meal about a half hour before our session.
- Snacks or toys should be left at home (special lovies that you want in photos may be brought).
- Please don’t make loud noises or play videos to get a child’s attention or make them smile, try to stay quiet and calm during their session. I would like them to connect with me, eye contact with the camera is easier this way.
- If there is something that you know will make your child smile let me know ahead of time so I can get smiles and eye contact.
- Bring diapers, wipes and tissues.
- Visit the bathroom before our session.
- Stressing or yelling at a child to smile will never get you the results you are looking for. Try to be as relaxed as possible with them.
- Dress for the weather as much as possible.
- If you or your child feels uncomfortable in their clothes it may show in the photos so that should be considered in your decisions.
- Have FUN! Hugs and kisses are recommended.
What do we wear?
I recommend not wearing all white or all black as a group. On your own is fine but as a group details get lost with those two colors. Try instead for shades of grey and black or whites and neutrals.
I love to see the personality of the kids or family come out in the photos so wearing whatever your style is really the best.
You want your pictures to reflect as much YOU as possible.

For a group portrait try choosing shades of 1 to 3 colors, mostly solids, that work nicely together and have everyone work within that color pallet.

Where will we have our photos taken?
I live and work in the upstate NY capitol region. I will travel for sessions. Distances over an hour drive for a portrait session a travel fee will be discussed as part of the session cost.
I prefer to do most portrait sessions outdoors with the exception being newborns. I have a few favorite places locally but I love exploring new places I have not photographed yet and I am up for your suggestions. Some of my favorite photos have came from a client's own property!

What about bad weather or illness?
Bad weather happens. I will stay in contact with you the week of and the day of your session if bad weather is predicted. I will let you know if we have to reschedule due to weather and we will pick the soonest available date or time for us both.
If you are sick and feel that you can't make it to your session I ask you to contact me as soon as possible to reschedule.
If I am sick I will let you know if I have to reschedule at least a day in advance.

How long will it take to see our photos?
Currently turn around for your image gallery is approximately 2 weeks. Portrait sessions images are provided as digital downloads.
Sometimes your photos will be available sooner but I will let you know if the waiting period will be any longer than 2 weeks.
Rush requests on processing and shipping can be made with an additional fee.

What photos do I get? Can I get the originals (raw files)?
I will hand select the BEST photos from your shoot. I carefully go through and select only the highest quality photos, then they are meticulously edited to reflect my simple, vibrant and timeless style. I strive to make you look your best and capture what makes you and your family unique in every photo. This means there will be plenty of photos that do not make it to your online gallery. If you didn't get a photo, it means that this photo was up to my standards.
I do not ever give the original files out. I do this because to me it is like giving someone an unfinished painting. I want you to only get my best work. This is reflected in the contract that will be signed before the session takes place.

Can I order prints?
Professional quality prints and photo canvases are available to order directly from your online gallery. You can select print packages or order your prints a la carte. I work with Miller's professional lab because I have tried many and the combination of quality and customer service exceeds all of their competitors.
Do you do Weddings or Events?
The short answer is no.
The long answer is if you contact me about a wedding or event I have friends in the area that specialize in these types of photography and I am happy to put you in touch with them. I like to stick with what I am best at, photographing children, babies and families.
